Cardamom
Since 2020, NovaforestTM established new green cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) plantations in the fertile Southern slopes of Fuego Volcano, located in the department of Escuintla, in Guatemala’s Pacific coast.
Novaforest opted for a sustainable agroforestry model, where cardamom plants are shaded by natural rubber trees and benefit from the rich, deep soils and abundant rainfall in the area.
NovaforestTM forestry and natural rubber plantations (El Pedregal, S.A. and Los Diamantes, S.A.) are certified under the Forest Stewardhip CouncilTM Forest Management Standard (FSCTM C130358 and FSCTM C163198 respectively) which is an international nongovernmental organization that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests. The cardamom plantations are managed under organic farming practices and are in the process of being certified under a sustainable agriculture standard in 2023
